1st Time Entrepreneur – Introduction

I am more than halfway through my tenure at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) and I am ready to add value to society. For the past 3 months I have been working to start a company that will manage how Universities, students, and University affiliated organizations will interact. From the end of January through the second week of May I will be sending my business plan through the New Venture Competition (a business plan competition) at UCSB. Upon its completion I plan on integrating the experience, knowledge, and connections from the contest into my company.

As of about 4pm, Wednesday, January 27th 2010, this is where I’m at. I’ve decided to chronicle my experiences starting my first company, beginning with the business plan competition. Over the next 3 months I will be writing a series of posts on topics ranging from the art of the elevator pitch to great books recommended by successful and knowledgeable entrepreneurs. Finally, I’d like to compile a resource page for first time entrepreneurs that will consist of:

  1. A “must read” list of bloggers
  2. Question and Answer sites for entrepreneurs
  3. Recommended reading list
  4. Market research resource list
  5. Anything else you recommend (or I think of on the fly)

Stay posted to hear about the competition and my new business! If you are looking to start your own company sometime in the future, or you want to contribute to the above mentioned resources, send me an email and we can talk about it. I’m looking forward to getting advice from many of you in the comments or via email!
